וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֶלְיָקִ֣ים בֶּן־חִ֠לְקִיָּהוּ וְשֶׁבְנָ֨ה וְיוֹאָ֜ח אֶל־רַב־שָׁקֵ֗ה דַּבֶּר־נָ֤א אֶל־עֲבָדֶ֙יךָ֙ אֲרָמִ֔ית כִּ֥י שֹׁמְעִ֖ים אֲנָ֑חְנוּ וְאַל־תְּדַבֵּ֤ר עִמָּ֙נוּ֙ יְהוּדִ֔ית בְּאָזְנֵ֣י הָעָ֔ם אֲשֶׁ֖ר עַל־הַחֹמָֽה׃
Da sprachen Eliakim, der Sohn Hilkias, und Sabna und Joah zu Rab-Shake: 'Sprich, ich bitte dich, zu deinen Dienern in aramäischer Sprache. denn wir verstehen es; und rede nicht mit uns in den Juden'Sprache, in den Ohren der Menschen, die an der Wand sind.'

For we understand it. We are residents of the palace, and understand Aramaic and other languages.
